Mrs Mjoen's Favorite Picture of Stephen
Mrs Mjoen took this picture in 2002, when Stephen's older brother graduated high school. Perhaps she can tell us something of the circumstances when she took it.
My son graduated along with Stephen's brother, David. After graduation, everyone had to walk back to the center of the school so that the graduates could pick up their 'real' diplomas. Stephen was looking for his family as I was too. I had my camera with me, said 'Smile,' and the picture you see is what appeared. Stephen loved the picture too – it hangs proudly on my wall in my classroom. And for the next five years he kept asking me for a copy of it (and you thought only students procrastinated) -- when Stephen graduated this year, I copied the picture and put it in his graduation card along with a small gift. I was happy to hear that the picture went with him to Germany -- I believe it captures the essence of Stephen.
